BA causes turbulence in FTSE's week of gains

The FTSE 100 ended the week by shedding 8.3 points today to 5,423.6, but still managed its biggest weekly gain in two and a half years.

Disappointing numbers from broadcaster BSkyB and a drop by British Airways caused today's losses. Fund firm Amvescap was one of the big movers as it gained 7.5p, or 1.99%, to 383.75p, after rumours US fund manager Janus might make an offer for the group. Legal & General finishing 2p, or 1.84%, higher at 110.75, after the insurer said revisions to a draft of new tax legislation meant the law would no longer affect the company. Biggest mover was Yell, which advanced 9.5p, or 2.09%, to 463.5p after investors bought shares in companies due to release results next week. BSkyB suffered a...
