FTSE flying as global shares rally

Positive results news coupled with a 12-week low in oil prices has led to a fast start for the FTSE100 this morning. London's blue-chip index is following the US and Asian lead, up 70.30 points (1.32%) to 5389.50.

Record half year profits has driven car insurer Admiral to the top position, 6.48% ahead to 878.50. Miners are doing well on solid news for Xstrata, with Ferrexpo 6.15% higher to 280.50 and Vedanta leaping 5.93% to 2001. A 61% jump in first half pre-tax profit has taken Rexam 5.9% ahead to 368, while a Aviva profit rise translates into a 5.25% jump to 491.25. Not good news for Lloyds TSB however, a profit slump has led it 1.79% lower to 315.25.
