New figures released by the Department for Work and Pensions indicate the average weekly net income for all pensioners is £246 for the period 2003/4.
The Pensioners' Incomes Series 2003/4 published by the Office of National Statistics finds benefit income comprised half of pensioner’s gross income, at that time followed by occupational pensions at 27%, investment income and earnings with 9% each, and personal pension income with 3%. From 98% of pensioners receiving some form of income from the State Pension and other National Insurance (NI) benefits, the average sum received is £113 per week in 2003/4 and £90 for singles with £149 for couples.
