Opposition criticises pension reform delay

Opposition parties have criticised some of the contents of the first Pensions Bill including the delay in restoring the link to earnings for the Basic State Pension.

In addition both the Liberal Democrats and the Conservatives have suggested the government has failed to address in its reforms the “glaring unfairness” between the public and private sectors. Nigel Waterson MP, the Conservative Shadow Minister for Pensions, says while they are happy with the general “direction of travel” of the proposed reforms it “remains concerned about the government giving themselves until 2015 to implement these reforms”.
