US asset manager Vanguard has made a $5bn bid for iShares, according to the Daily Telegraph. CVC Capital Partners, which agreed a $4.4bn deal with iShares parent Barclays in April, has the right to match any subsequent offers made under the 45-day 'go shop' provision contained in the deal. If Barclays does not sell iShares to CVC, it must pay trhe firm a $175m break fee.
