The Government's recent decision not to fund personal care for elderly people in residential and nursing homes has clarified the issue for IFAs but is unlikely to cause an increase in the sales of long term care protection. Instead of following the Royal Commission on Long Term Care's chief recommendations, it is to limit funding contribution to free nursing care for the elderly, removing the anomaly of the service being provided free in a hospital but not in a nursing home.
