The FTSE Smaller Companies sector has outperformed the FTSE 100 by 14% over the past two months as investors are beginning to see value emerge in the sector. Richard Philbin, fund of funds manager at Isis Asset Management, says until a couple of weeks ago, the FTSE 100 had outperformed the Smaller Companies index by about 13% on a relative basis over two years. However, as a result of the more recent outperformance, the differential between the indices has come down to just 4%, he notes.
