A resounding day's trade in the US and UK yesterday lifted optimism that the worst of the bear market could be drawing to a close. Add this to yesterday's UK rate cut to 5.5% and today's trading looked set for decent climbs. But FTSE 100 gains were modest after Autonomy spoiled confidence with an earnings warning.
