Pegasus, the healthcare arm of Scottish Mutual, issued more than 25,000 policies and had a record year in 2000 worth more than £4bn, according to their latest business figures. Total number of policies for the year rose by 51% to 25,302, and annualised premiums climbed 83% to £13.7m, against £75m in 1999. Almost 27% of new policyholders opted to buy Pegasus' critical illness buyback option, which allows people who have previously made claims to take out new cover against cancer, heart attacks and strokes.
