Full-time carers who have given up work to care for family members are missing out on having their mortgage costs met by payment protection insurance (PPI), according to an independent provider of the product. Simon Burgess, managing director at British Insurance, said that although the policies meet monthly mortgage costs in the event of accident, sickness or unemployment, it was unclear to many that unemployment also covered them if they left work through circumstances beyond their control.
