The number of people covered under private medical insurance (PMI) policies rose in 2008, according to figures from the Association of British Insurers (ABI). 7,335,000 people were covered in 2008, a mixture of 6,224,000 under personal and corporate PMI plans, and 1,111 000 under Healthcare Trust arrangements. In total, the number of people covered increased by 2.7% compared to 2007. Nick Starling, director of general insurance and health at the body, said the continued rise was good news.
