The Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) came into force across Europe on 22 July. Its aim is to provide an internal market for alternative investment fund managers (AIFMs) and a harmonised and stringent regulatory and supervisory framework for the management and marketing activities within the EU of all AIFMs. This includes those who have their registered office in a member state and those with an office in a third country.
