Richard Peirson, manager of the AXA Framlington Managed Balanced fund, talks to Joanna Faith about his 18-year run of outperformance.

What is the secret behind your almost two decades of success? The key is the anagram KIS - keep it simple. I have never tried to be too clever with asset allocation; instead I look to add value through stock selection. I am quite happy to look similar to my peer group in terms of asset allocation and geographic region. But if you actually look at the other funds in the IMA 40-85% Shares sector, we look quite different because we tend to have more in UK equities and no alternatives exposure at all. I would say I run an equities fund with a bond and cash element as an insurance policy...
