'Profession or industry' was the title of an article I wrote in 2004 and, five years on, I thought it might be interesting to revisit the subject to see how things have developed in the intervening period. This idea was triggered after attending a few conferences recently, including the excellent IFP Conference at Celtic Manor last week, where the subject was brought up on a number of occasions.
