Take-up of multi-manager investments has been much slower than initially anticipated over the last three years, prompting questions as to whether advisers still wait for a fund manager's three-year track record before selecting a manager to handle assets.
Many financial intermediaries still select suitable investments for clients once three-year performance figures on both the fund manager and fund are available, so it had appeared multi-manager investments were only being selected once that time frame was up. However, Adam Carruthers, investment manager at Aegon-owned Origen, the IFA division, says the reality is most investment advisers have steered clear of recommending multi-manager investments until now because there was still a strong bear market dissuading investors and intermediaries from selecting potential investment allocations...
