Analysis: Pension age discrimination rules still unclear

Despite the government delaying the implementation of age discrimination regulations on pensions, the effects of the legislation are still unclear.

The remaining age discrimination rules are coming into effect on October 1st, as part of a European directive, but the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) says it has delayed the effect on pensions until 1 December. James Purnell, minister for pensions reform, says the delay will allow schemes more time to adjust to the regulations following the changes in the pensions arena such as A-Day.
