Independent pensions commission demanded by July

The next government should establish an independent pensions commission as soon as possible after the May general election, MPs have urged today.

A report published today by the Work and Pensions Select Committee said an independent commission was essential for tackling a range of urgent issues and providing coherence in pensions policy. It called for an incoming government to create the body by July this year. The committee said the commission should focus on assessing progress in automatic enrolment (AE) and the impact of the forthcoming pension flexibilities. It would also advise government on amendments to existing pension legislation and on the development of future policy. One of its early tasks would be to reassess...
