On 1 September 2026, the Financial Conduct Authority's new regime for non-financial misconduct came into force. Few sensible people will object to the proposition that serious bullying, harassment or violence has no place in a financial services business. Firms should protect their employees, deal properly with complaints and take appropriate action against individuals guilty of serious misconduct. But that is not really where the controversy lies.
