"How's your wife?" It's a perfectly normal question. Except sometimes the answer isn't what people expect. Thirteen years ago, someone I'd worked with for almost a decade asked me exactly that.   I didn't have a wife; I did have a male partner of many years though.  We laughed about it, but the conversation stayed with me.
