No-one plans to get divorced - but unfortunately, it happens to lots of couples. The official figures are pretty eye-opening and show the huge increase in divorces over the years. Back in 1965, one in ten couples were divorced by their tenth anniversary, but that has now increased to just under one in five couples. If we stretch out the timeframe and look at those who are divorced by their 25th wedding anniversary, for couples married in 1963 (the first data available) 23% of couples had divorced by their silver wedding anniversary, but that has risen to 41% of couples today.
