2001 was about the time I entered the industry, and we were knee deep in pensions and FSAVC review, this was a baptism of fire learning about all things defined benefits vs personal pension and calculating redress of tens of thousands of pounds on a daily basis. It was a great way to understand how not to advise on defined benefit transfer. Clearly, I wanted to do better and so took all my exams and qualified to give advice myself. This was a bad time for the pensions advice profession and we have to say that not all advice was bad, but it tainted even those that were giving good advice ...
