The FCA's Retirement Outcomes Review interim report describes accessing pension pots early as "the new norm" among non-advised customers - but, says Stephen Lowe, just think about what that actually means.

Are you ever surprised by the number of gambling adverts on late-night TV? Like a lot of people who buy the odd lottery ticket or back a horse in the Grand National, I enjoy a flutter now and again - win or lose. Yet, to me, the number of online casino ads jostling for space seems to be trying to portray a world where risking money is the norm rather than a rare and potentially expensive treat. Gambling companies would not advertise unless it was profitable to do so.
