The Clash may have made the question sound easy, says Ian Price, but when it comes to pensions - and in this case DB transfers - things are rarely so straightforward

No, the title of this article is not referring to the famous rock song sang by The Clash - when I pose the question ‘should I stay or should I go', I am talking about  the current ‘hot topic' of considering transferring out of a defined benefit (DB) pension. We are in an unprecedented period of low interest rates and gilt yields. These have combined to make DB schemes more expensive to run, which in turn has prompted some scheme trustees to offer higher transfer values.
