The asset management industry is typical of many other major industries from a structural perspective - it is about the manufacture and distribution of investment funds.

But to describe successful fund management as 'manufacturing' puts it in the same camp as widget production. This potentially demeans the intellect and skill of the many fund managers who made it onto the shortlists over the past 20 years for Investment Week's Fund Manager of the Year Awards.
