Last week I found myself up in court, in sunny Nottingham, in front of a severe-looking judge who was donning a black cap and scowling at me. However, I can assure you it was all a bit of fun.
The judge was not real, the court was filled with IFAs and the actual defendants were an exotic selection of fund groups, technology providers and platforms, all brought together under the heading of the Big Debate (courtesy of local firm Morland Black), to determine whether RDR is actually working. I had to quiz the defendants to get at the truth, while their job was to suggest their offering (be it fund, platform or technology service) was ticking all the boxes as far as RDR was concerned. The IFP’s interim CEO, Steve Gizzard, even reminded the audience of the original aims of the RDR....
