It now appears very likely that the UK is heading for a recession as official figures showed that the economy contracted by 0.5% in the third quarter of this year. Recent economic data has also indicated that the economy has continued to struggle in the fourth quarter and it is widely expected that data in January will confirm a second consecutive quarter of contraction, thereby meeting the definition of a technical recession.
