Inheritance tax and estate planning is an issue which is getting more attention following the changes made to trusts in March.
The changes announced by Gordon Brown in the last Budget have highlighted the growing concern around IHT and the amount of people being caught in the threshold which has failed to rise in line with house prices. Despite also raising the IHT threshold in the Budget, (a prime example of giving with one hand and taking with the other), many in the industry believe it is not enough with Halifax actively calling for a higher threshold as 8% of all owner-occupied homes are currently over the £285,000 limit.
