IHT receipts continue to climb to £3.8bn

Inheritance tax (IHT) receipts for April to August this year were £3.8bn, an increase of £100m on the same period last year, latest figures have revealed.

Data from HMRC, released today (22 September), showed a further rise in IHT tax take as thresholds remain frozen.  HMRC predicted higher receipts in the coming years and highlighted that receipts in June this year were the highest on record. Wesleyan head of intermediaries distribution Nick Henshaw said the numbers reinforced the longer-term direction of travel.  "Frozen thresholds, significant wealth tied up in property and forthcoming changes to pensions all mean that IHT is now a reality for many who have never had to consider it before.
