FCA recovers almost all funds lost to investment fraudster

Nearly all the money lost by victims of convicted investment fraudster John Burford is set to be returned after the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) secured a confiscation order against him.

The regulator said victims are expected to recover around 99% of the money originally invested after Southwark Crown Court ordered Burford to pay £655,951.40 on 27 July. The sum represents the total value of assets the court determined were available for recovery and will be distributed directly to victims. Combined with payments Burford had already made to investors, the FCA said almost all the money invested by the approximately 70 known victims will now have been repaid.
