Investment fraudsters jailed over £11.5m scam

Targeted elderly individuals and amassed 115 victims

Two investment fraudsters have been handed prison sentences over an £11.58m scam that targeted elderly individuals.

Suffolk fraudster Steven Long, 59, of Kesgrave, was sentenced to eight years last Friday (17 July). Long took advantage of 115 victims, acting under the banner of multiple businesses, including unregulated Universal Wealth Preservation. First arrested in 2018, Long, last March, pleaded guilty to two counts of fraud by abuse by position at Southwark Crown Court. Raymond Simpson, 79, who also faced a charge of fraud by abuse of position, was also jailed for five years and four months after being found guilty by a jury.
