Govt moves to tackle gender pension gap with LPGS scheme changes

Reforms follow consultation on access and fairness in the Local Government Pension Scheme

Millions of women working in local government are set to see their pensions improve under Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) reforms coming into force in April, the government has announced as it moves to tackle the gender pension gap.

The measures – which follow the government's consultation on access and fairness in the LGPS in England and Wales and its response published yesterday (2 February) – include making gender pension gap data reporting statutory as well as making unpaid additional maternity, shared parental and adoption leave automatically pensionable.
