Rachel Reeves is considering an income tax rise in the upcoming Autumn Budget, The Guardian reports.
A source told The Guardian that the chancellor is in "active discussions" over increasing income tax, but Reeves is nervous about the political consequences of the potential abandonment of the party's previous pledges. The national paper revealed that Reeves could be making the move which would break the Labour Party's manifesto promise not to raise taxes on ‘working people', including through income tax, National Insurance (NI) and VAT.
