AJ Bell has launched a parliamentary petition pushing the government to commit to retaining pension tax incentives, a move it said would end “damaging speculation” on the future of tax-free cash and tax relief on contributions.
The provider said it wanted government to back what it is calling a ‘Pension Tax Lock', which would see ministers promise not to alter pension tax incentives for at least the remainder of this parliament. The petition needs 10,000 signatures to force a government response. It has, as of this morning (7 October) attracted more than 3,000. AJ Bell said it had campaigned for a Pension Tax Lock for many years and such a pledge would allow millions to plan for retirement with confidence.
