Ashton-under-Lyne home valued at £650,000 before part was placed in a trust

Deputy prime minister Angela Rayner has been facing questions over an alleged inheritance tax (IHT) “dodge”, The Times reports.

The Times reported on Sunday (31 August) that Rayner's constituency home in Ashton-under-Lyne was valued at £650,000, the maximum allowed before IHT becomes payable, when part of it was placed in a trust using a wealth protection firm. The deputy prime minister purchased the home with her former husband for £375,000 in 2016. The report said the now-divorced couple split the ownership with a trust.
