More women are ‘contributing less’ to DC pots, with men having pots double the size

The gender pensions gap is set to “keep rising” as women are contributing less to their defined contribution (DC) pots, according to Broadstone.

Analysis of pension pots from the consultancy through the Wealth and assets survey, found a smaller proportion of women contribute to their DC pots compared to men across all age groups, at 23% compared to 19% of men, while men aged 16 and over have double the median size of pots as women at £10,000 compared to £5,000. The survey highlighted only one-quarter (25%) of women in the middle of their career (aged 35 to 44) contributed to their pension, while one-third (33%) of men in this age group did, with men having almost double the pot size of women at this age (£12,000 compared to £6,70...
