A third (32%) of those over 50 fear they will not have enough money to get by in the future, according to SunLife research.

A study from the provider also found that a fifth (20%) were confident they can fund their retirement properly. SunLife's 2021 Finances after 50 report asked 3,000 UK adults aged over 50 about their savings and investment habits. It found a significant proportion of those in their later life felt "financially insecure". Despite only 20% of those surveyed feeling confident about funding later life, the report did find the number of over 50s with a pension was up since 2019; the average reported pot was worth £166,579 compared to £141,712 in 2019.
