David Gauke leaves DWP for Ministry of Justice

Esther McVey replaces him

After seven months in the role, David Gauke has been moved from the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) to the Ministry of Justice as part of Theresa May's 2018 reshuffle.

Tatton MP Esther McVey, who used to work as a presenter on GMTV, has replaced Gauke as secretary of state for work and pensions although the Prime Minister first offered the job to the outgoing education secretary, Justine Greening, who instead resigned from the government. Gauke, who will become secretary of state for justice and Lord Chancellor, was appointed to the DWP in June 2017 after the former minister, Damian Green, was made first secretary of state.
