Professional Adviser's investment detective Matt Morris delivers his verdict on five developments in the investment and pensions arenas that have caught his eye over the last month

Rat Race According to BlackRock's Investor Pulse survey, around 16 million people in the UK do not know the government boosts their pension contributions in the form of tax relief. Brits currently contribute around 2% of their - average £27,000 - annual salary into their pension, generating an extra £135 per year from the government through tax relief. If Brits were to increase their payments and save 5% of their annual salary, said BlackRock, they would stand to gain £13,520 in pension tax relief over 40 years, amounting to £28 per month.
