"Do you think the FCA is watching us?" whispered the chairman of the improbably-sized investment company Prandeamus Asset Management nervously when I visited him last week. "Isn't that rather its point?" I replied.

"You'd have thought ‘keeping an eye on members of Her Majesty's financial services industry' was a chunky part of its job description." "No, I mean us - you and me," stressed the chairman, his eyes darting around the room nervously. "Oh come on," I laughed. "For one thing, I would really like to think the FCA had better things to do and, for another, I know you learned a long time ago from an old mate at Jupiter it never does any harm to sweep the office for bugs on a regular basis.
