Advice rule irritates DB savers as pension freedom trends emerge

The advantages of defined benefit (DB) pensions appear lost on some final salary savers who are frustrated by a government rule mandating they seek regulated advice before transferring out, research suggests.

Almost one in ten calls to Fidelity Worldwide Investment's pensions hotline is from a DB client requesting details on how they can benefit from the pension ‘freedoms' afforded to defined contribution (DC) savers from 6 April this year, the group said. But it added the requirement for advice "is frustrating some customers who just want to take their cash".
