Multi-million pound tax case halted as HMRC official arrested

A major tax avoidance investigation has been halted after one of the key figures in the case was arrested on suspicion of wrongdoing.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has been forced to adjourn the £31m case after the arrest of David Duthie, part of its 12-strong team investigating film tax partnerships across the country, The Times reports. The police have not commented on the arrest but according to Future Capital Partners, the provider of the two film partnerships in the case, the allegations against Duthie are "of criminal behaviour relating to the officer's role as a tax official".
