Doctors to take industrial action in June over pensions

The British Medical Association (BMA) has voted in favour of industrial action in protest against reforms to the NHS pension scheme.

According to a series of ballots which closed yesterday, 79% of doctors voted in favour of action short of a strike, while 63% voted in favour of a full strike. The BMA has proposed that doctors provide all urgent and emergency care but postponing non-urgent cases for one or more 24-hour periods. The day of action will take place on 21 June. In December the government offered public sector unions its final deal on scheme reform. It proposed that the NHS scheme moves to a career average rather than final salary structure, with a normal retirement age equal to the state retirement...
