Govt to probe 'spaghetti bowl' pension tax system

The Office of Tax Simplification (OTS) will examine pensioner taxation in a new review announced today.

Today's review was announced alongside another investigating employee share schemes, as well as the OTS' current review of small business taxation. David Guake, exchequer secretary (pictured), said the current tax system is a "spaghetti bowl of reliefs" for pensioners and is ripe for reform. The OTS will collect evidence from pensioner groups and other parties to find out which parts of the tax system cause people the most difficulty.
