The Treasury has issued a veiled threat to unions to withhold industrial action or risk more harsh reforms to public sector pensions.
Chief secretary Danny Alexander, writing in today's Telegraph, warned union members: "Do not let the union bosses sacrifice your pension for their political platform." "It is unjustifiable the taxpayer should work longer and pay more tax so that public sector workers can retire earlier and get more than them," said Alexander. "We have been in constructive, positive and frank discussions with the TUC about these issues.
