Advisers with clients planning to work or live abroad should remain vigilant when it comes to health insurance needs. The UAE has announced a new medical test regime for expats.
Under the new test regime, any expat wanting to work in the UAE must be tested for HIV/AIDS, syphilis and pulmonary TB. Housemaids and nannies must submit to a pregnancy test, while all kindergarten school employees, barbers, health club workers and restaurant employees must be proven free of hepatitis B. In addition many countries require that expatriates must take out comprehensive healthcare cover before arriving, as it is a prerequisite for a working visa.
