Coal ETFs to rise after nuclear crisis

Coal investments look set to appreciate as concerns over the safety of nuclear power resurface, according to commodity ETP specialists ETF Securities.

The damage caused by the recent earthquake to Japan's nuclear electricity production prompted a surge in demand for ETFS' crude oil and natural gas ETCs, also stimulated by ongoing unrest in the MENA region.  But ETFS says coal prices in the Atlantic also rose nearly 10% during that period. While there are no ETCs tracking coal futures currently available, ETFS in the UK, as well as Van Eck and PowerShares in the US, offer ETFs investing in relevant equities.
