ETF assets to break $2trn mark in 2012

Assets in ETFs and ETPs are expected to reach $2trn worldwide by early 2012, according to BlackRock analysts.

Global assets under management (AUM) are forecast to climb 20% to 30% year-on-year over the next three years, following growth of approximately 28% across the ETP universe in 2010. Taking the market on a regional basis, BlackRock projects that ETF/ETP AUM in the US alone should top $2trn in 2013, while European assets are likely to reach the $500bn mark in 2012. BlackRock global head of ETF research and implementation strategy Deborah Fuhr says: "The industry grew across the board during 2010 and we expect this to continue in 2011."
