Osborne accused on OBR; Cable reaction - papers

George Osborne has been accused of undermining the Treasury's new economic watchdog by appointing one of his own officials to run operations.

A number of MPs have expressed concerns the independence of the Office of Budget Responsibility (OBR) will be compromised if its secretariat is run by a Treasury civil servant, according to the Guardian. Robert Chote, chairman of the OBR, has already selected Josephs, currently head of public finances at the Treasury, to take the role, arguing someone with experience is needed to guide the body.
