The Dow has opened in positive territory after a sense of calm was restored to world markets following yesterday's dramatic falls.
As at 15.15 GMT, the index was up 0.97%, or 96 points, to 10140 as investors were buoyed by an upturn in Asian shares. Japan's Nikkei index rose 0.7%, with markets in China, Hong Kong, India and Singapore also rising overnight as fears over Europe's debt crisis subsided. Across Europe, the French Cac is up 3.26%, while Germany's Dax has advanced 2.56%. Positive economic news form the US also contributed to the upturn in the stock market, with figures from the Commerce Department showing orders for durable goods rose by a better-than-expected 2.9% in April.
