Budget 2010: Economic growth forecast cut

The Chancellor has made a slight reduction in his optimistic growth forecasts for the coming years, after revising 2009's severe economic contraction up from 4.7% to 5%.

Alistair Darling says "the right calls were made" over the Government's handling of the recession and financial crisis. Darling believes the UK economic recovery is broadly on track and expects to see 1% to 1.5% growth in 2010 and an average of between 3% and 3.5% in 2011.  The latest forecast is in line with predictions from the Bank of England. The Chancellor had previously predicted growth would hit at least 3.5% next year.
